AI is likely to eliminate some jobs, transform many more, and create entirely new categories. The men who do best over the next 10–20 years will probably be those who combine human capabilities with AI tools rather than competing directly against AI.
The biggest mistake is assuming AI will replace everyone equally. Historically, technology tends to reward people who learn to use it and punish those who ignore it. The goal isn’t to compete against AI—it’s to become the man who knows how to use AI better than others in your field.
Here are the areas I’d focus on:
1. Build Skills AI Struggles With
AI is excellent at processing information. It’s much weaker at:
- Leadership
- Negotiation
- Persuasion
- Trust-building
- Mentoring
- Sales
- Managing people
- Strategic decision-making
A good manager who uses AI may become dramatically more productive. A mediocre manager may be replaced.
2. Learn a Trade
Physical work remains surprisingly resilient.
Examples:
- Electrician
- Plumber
- HVAC technician
- Carpenter
- Welder
- Heavy equipment operator
AI can help diagnose problems, but it can’t easily crawl into a loft, repair a boiler, or rewire a house.
Many trades are already experiencing labour shortages.
3. Become AI-Literate
You don’t need to become a programmer.
You do need to know:
- How to use ChatGPT effectively
- How AI agents work
- How to automate repetitive tasks
- How to evaluate AI-generated output
- When AI is wrong
Think of AI literacy like computer literacy in the 1990s.
4. Develop Technical Knowledge
Fields likely to remain strong:
- Cybersecurity
- Data engineering
- Robotics
- Industrial automation
- Energy systems
- Infrastructure
- Semiconductor manufacturing
- Defence technologies
These areas combine physical systems, regulation, and technical expertise.
5. Focus on Ownership
One of the biggest opportunities is not employment but ownership.
AI lets one person do the work of several.
Examples:
- Run a content business
- Build niche websites
- Create online courses
- Launch a software product
- Operate an e-commerce business
- Publish books
The future may reward entrepreneurs disproportionately because AI dramatically reduces operating costs.
6. Become Exceptional at Communication
Clear writing and speaking are becoming more valuable, not less.
Why?
Because AI generates information, but humans still decide:
- What matters
- What action to take
- Who to trust
Men who can explain complex ideas clearly will remain valuable.
7. Stay Physically and Mentally Healthy
This sounds unrelated but matters enormously.
The AI transition will create uncertainty.
Men who maintain:
- Physical fitness
- Emotional resilience
- Discipline
- Adaptability
will have a significant advantage over those who become passive consumers of technology.
Careers I’d Be Cautious About
Jobs heavily based on routine information processing are most vulnerable:
- Basic bookkeeping
- Data entry
- Simple coding
- Basic copywriting
- Routine legal document review
- Entry-level administrative work
- Basic customer support
These roles won’t disappear overnight, but many will require far fewer people.
A Practical Plan for the Next 5 Years
- Learn AI tools deeply.
- Develop one valuable human skill (sales, leadership, negotiation, teaching).
- Develop one valuable technical skill (trade, cybersecurity, automation, engineering).
- Build a side business or second income stream.
- Stay adaptable and keep learning.
