Modern Dating for Men

Whether it’s your first time or fifteenth, dating for men can be a chaotic blend of excitement, uncertainty, anxiety and frustration.

The world of dating can produce some very negative emotions. The feeling of constantly being judged coupled with a hefty dose of rejection – especially when using dating apps – can all contribute to a general sense of deflation.

If it’s any consolation, you’re not alone. An international study conducted by dating app giant Tinder revealed that 91% of men and 94% of women agree that dating has become more difficult.

So, how do you break free from the cycle of frustration and begin to see more success in your dating life? While no man can guarantee success, you can begin to shift the odds in your favour.

Today, we explore five actionable ways smart men are making their dating lives a little easier.

1. Invest in yourself before your profile

Whether you’re using Tinder, Hinge, Bumble or any of the other apps, having a polished dating profile certainly helps. However, it’s no substitute for having an interesting life.

People are naturally drawn to men who have purpose beyond finding a partner – so don’t make dating your life. Instead, spend time developing hobbies, travelling, building your career, getting fitter, and having a quality social life. Then see how romantic relationships become the icing on the cake, rather than the cake itself.

2. Get back to reality

Dating apps are such a convenient way to meet potential partners. Yet considering that 67% of dating app users are men, you are trying to stand out among a lot of competition.

Instead, start making real-life encounters your focus, with dating apps a supplement. This doesn’t mean you have to start romantically approaching every single woman you see. Rather, start doing more things in real life, from joining clubs and groups to attending singles nights and speed dating. Develop your IRL social skills and see what sparks naturally.

3. Take care of your appearance

Looks aren’t everything and while personality is the foundation of any good relationship, first impressions definitely count.

In short, ensure you are taking care of your appearance. It sounds obvious, but many men won’t pay much attention to their general appearance or hygiene. Give yourself every chance to make a good first impression.

Choose well-fitting clothes that suit your body type. Maintain good dental hygiene and keep your fingernails clean. Rock a haircut that complements your face and lifestyle. These are not difficult things to master, but can make all the difference to your confidence.

4. Lead with authenticity

Whether you are talking with a romantic prospect or out on a date, many men feel like they have to impress. Yet this can often come across as desperate or arrogant, having the opposite effect.

Instead, present your true self, including your personality, values and interests. This is important to building trust and attracting a partner who appreciates you for you.

Additionally, be curious. The best conversations happen when you’re genuinely interested in the other person. Ask thoughtful questions, listen to the answers, and look for shared interests rather than trying to deliver the perfect one-liner or showing them photos of your fancy car.

5. Accept rejection as inevitable

No matter who you are, rejection, ghosting and unsuccessful first dates are an inherent part of dating. In fact, for men, the average match rate on Tinder is just 5.26%.

As frustrating as it is, there’s no need to take it personally. Handle rejection gracefully. Accept ‘no’ as a final answer and move on, maintaining your dignity. Try to ease your frustration by treating each experience as information rather than a personal failure.

The Final Word

Modern dating isn’t always easy, but success rarely comes from clever lines or playing games. It comes from confidence, authenticity and the willingness to keep putting yourself out there in your best light.

Be patient, stay positive and trust that the right connection is out there – and worth waiting for.
